* Who Can consider Chin Reduction Surgery
Cosmetic chin surgery is surgery that is performed to reshape a chin. Sometimes chin surgery may be performed when someone has suffered an injury to the chin, but aesthetic chin surgery is more common. The changes to the chin may be small or major changes. Chin surgery will also affect the look of the nose, cheeks and face.
What Is The Procedure?
Before a cosmetic chin surgery procedure, the plastic surgeon and the patient will discuss how the face will look after the procedure. Some surgeons may use computer imaging programs to show the patients what their face will look like after surgery. Cosmetic chin surgery is usually done with the patient under general anesthetic. Sedation is also a possibility. After the surgery, the chin will be covered with a bandage for about two or three days. There will be some pain afterwards. Pain medication may be prescribed. After a chin surgery, it will be difficult to chew.
IMPLANTS
A chin lift implant (also called chin augmentation) corrects a weak chin. The most common form of implant is a silicone implant or Porex chin implant. It is inserted into a space in the fascia. Some of the types of implants are:
- Bone grafts. Bone is taken from the patient’s body.
- Cadveric bone grafts. Bone is taken from a deceased donor.
- Autologous tissue grafts. Tissue is taken from the patient’s body.
- Autologous fat transfer (or fat grafting). Fat is taken from the patient’s body.
- Cadaveric tissue grafts. Tissue is taken from deceased donors.
- Apligraft. Apligraft comes from infant foreskin cells and bovine collagen.
- Silicone implants. Silicone facial implants are solid and flexible manufactured implants.
- Polythylene implants. Polythylene implants are porous implants that rely on tissue integration.
- Hydroxypatite implants. This is a manufactured implant that has the porous structure and chemical make-up of bone.
- Inject able implants. These are implants that are injected into the chin. Some of these implants are only temporary.
FIXING THE IMPLANTS
An incision is made on the site of the implant. The implant is placed on top of the bone. It is then stitched, sutured or screwed into place. Sometimes the implant is not sutured, but is simply placed in a pocket and the body’s collagen keeps it in place. For some implants, like silicone implants, titanium screws may sometimes be used.
GENIOPLASTY
Genioplasty is another way of improving a weak chin. A section of the jaw is removed with an oscillating bone saw. The bone is then moved forward and kept in place with metal screws and plates.
CHIN REDUCTION SURGERY
With cosmetic surgery to reduce the chin, an incision is made in the chin and the bone is sculpted. The excess is removed from it and the incision is stitched up.
DOUBLE CHIN PLASTIC SURGERY
Double chin plastic surgery is a different type of cosmetic chin surgery. It gets rid of the excess skin and fatty tissues that result in a double chin. Patients may be treated with Tumescent Liposuction, which removes the excess fat through a small incision.
